Jacqueline Fernandez hails from Manama in Bahrain. She was raised within an ethnically diverse family. Jacqueline's father Elroy is from Sri Lanka (Catholic Sinhalese) and her mother, Kim is a Malaysian. Jacqueline has two older siblings and a younger sibling. Parents relocated to Bahrain during the 1980s because of the Lankan civil unrest and hence she was born and raised in Bahrain. The schooling she completed was in Bahrain and she received a Scholarship to an education at University of Sydney. There she was awarded an Media and Communications degree. Having a passion for the world of languages and cultures, she joined the Berlitz school of languages, where she learned to speak Spanish as well as improve her French and Arabic. Miss Sri Lanka 2006 won Miss Universe 2006 competition in March 2006 and she competed as Miss Universe 2006 also. In the aftermath of winning the Miss Sri Lanka title in 2006, she took on the world of TV and anchored a show on Sri Lanka's business known as Lanka Business Report. Padukone, her mother was the famous badminton star Prakash Padukone, was born in Copenhagen and was raised in Bangalore. When she was a teenager she was a badminton player in National level competitions. She later resigned her career in the sport to pursue a career as a model. Padukone's native language is Konkani. The model is Mangalorean in her origins. Padukone is a village within the Kundapura Taluk of Karnataka's Udupi District. Prakash Padukone was a badminton legend who retired in the 1980s. Her mother, who worked for a travel agent, is also from the village.
