Jacqueline Fernandez hails from Manama in Bahrain. She was raised within an ethnically diverse family. Jacqueline's father Elroy is from Sri Lanka (Catholic Sinhalese) and her mother, Kim is a Malaysian. Jacqueline has two older siblings and a younger sibling. Parents relocated to Bahrain during the 1980s because of the Lankan civil unrest and hence she was born and raised in Bahrain. The schooling she completed was in Bahrain and she received a Scholarship to an education at University of Sydney. There she was awarded an Media and Communications degree. Having a passion for the world of languages and cultures, she joined the Berlitz school of languages, where she learned to speak Spanish as well as improve her French and Arabic. Miss Sri Lanka 2006 won Miss Universe 2006 competition in March 2006 and she competed as Miss Universe 2006 also.
